MSU NetID

NetID

A Key to Accessing Electronic Resources

New Faculty/Staff

To get started as a new member of the MSU community, you will need to setup your MSU NetID. Your NetID is an electronic identity at MSU and serves as your login to many university computing and networking services.

As a new MSU faculty/staff member, your NetID is auto-generated once your hiring is completed in Human Resources. Requesting a PIN and activating the NetID allows you to create a password for your NetID and find out what NetID has been assigned to you.

For departments hiring academic faculty, there is an optional pre-on-boarding process that may assist with the transition to MSU.  For more information, please review the pre-on-boarding document.

Getting Started

  1. Request a PIN.

  2. Activate and set up your NetID.

  3. Register for Two-Factor Authentication.

  4. Visit the Technology Resources for Faculty page or the Technology Resources for Staff page to learn more about connecting your devices to the network and other technology resources available to you.

A PIN is a 4-digit, one-time-use code needed to activate your NetID. Request a PIN by filling out the online PIN Request Form.

Activate and set up your NetID using your 4-digit, one-time-use PIN and your ID number (ZPID). This will require you to create a password. (Read tips for creating a strong password.)

MSU requires a second method of authentication along with your NetID and password to log into Enterprise Business System (EBS) applications. Your NetID and password are needed to register and use your two-factor authentication credentials.
